No, with our exothermic technology we do not recommend using heat.
For guaranteed results we recommend using the Calura developers with Calura hair color.
We recommend use of a 9%/30 volume developer for white coverage with coarse or resistant hair types only. As long as you have formulated correctly as per hair characteristics along with proper timing and shade selection you will not experience “hot roots”. Hair characteristics refers to the texture, density, elasticity and porosity of the hair.
We do not recommend adding any accelerators to our hair colour.
No, as we use keratin derived from sheep’s wool.
Our 10 volume generates the lowest amount of heat, which is not a sufficient amount of heat to allow enough opening of the cuticle.
- For toning services and with use of our Pastel series.
- For shine and hydration when mixed with Clear
- For use on damp for a demi-permanent option
For best longevity, we recommend using a 6%/ 20 volume for colour balancing or refreshing mid lengths and ends.
Calura Gloss
We recommend utilizing our Calura Gloss Developers with Calura Gloss shades.
Calura Care & Styling Color Lock will assist in best longevity of the colour as it begins the process of lowering the PH and reducing the swelling of the cuticle scales.
You may use the Demi Effect Developer Lotion from Calura permanent shine hair colour with Calura Gloss, however you may experience lift in doing so.
Quadraplex is not recommended with Calura Gloss. There is no need to use Quadraplex with Calura Gloss formulations. Quadraplex is normally used in stronger formulations. Calura Gloss is very mild.
Yes, but adding Quadraplex to Calura Gloss is not recommended.
Yes, the same shade recommendations and instructions given for Calura can be used for Calura Gloss. Please see our Technical Manual for pre-colouring recommendations.
Yes
All of the ingredients will be diluted and therefore the hue, longevity and all the benefits will be diluted along with viscosity. Dilution must be done with the Clear.

No, our Blacklight Power Shades are an off-scalp application only.
This technology strengthens the hair bonds and protects the surface of the hair during chemical treatments. It also replenishes and prevents the loss of natural lipid in the hair. The protection level varies depending on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide present; as it increases, the built-in protection also intensifies.

No, we do recommend heat at any time.

No
Follow the colour or lightener recommendations without taking in consideration the SMART Concentrate amount. Then add the SMART Concentrate based on the quantity of colour/lightener used and the instructions provided. Ex. 30 ml colour + 30 ml developer + 1 pump (2.7 ml) SMART Concentrate.
Seek and follow recommendations for the keratin treatment. Keratin treatments can vary in components. It is best to consult with the Keratin treatment supplier.
Yes. We never tested on synthetic hair extensions, but it will be compatible with natural, good quality hair extensions. For “tape-ins/k-tips” seek and follow recommendations from the supplier.
Blacklight SMART does not contain animal derived materials and is not tested on animals.
1) Lighten (include SMART Concentrate in formula) 2) Shampoo with SMART Pro Purifying Shampoo 3) Tone 4) Condition with SMART Conditioner or Treatment
The hair will have a noticeable difference after the first application.
We do not recommend adding SMART to Calura Gloss because it contains very low levels of alkalinity; the SMART Concentrate could dilute it further resulting in very poor longevity and even deviation of the hue. We rather recommend adding the SMART Concentrate to your lightener formula prior to applying your Gloss formula. It can be added to your FunkHue Formula.
The Pro formula contains an extra benefit which is a pH indicator dye. This dye changes the colour of the shampoo lather when harmful chemical residues are present on the hair surface and scalp. The retail formula does not contain a pH indicator. Taking the Pro home will not cause any harm, but the formula was created for stylists.
No. The SMART Shampoo uses milder detergents and can be used frequently. Complementing the mild detergents, it contains natural ingredients that have purifying properties which decongest the scalp from excess oils, stimulates scalp blood vessels circulation and offers nutrients to the hair bulb.
Best practice recommendations for maximum protection and repair is to use both. However, SMART Developers are a must to provide protection and consistent benefits when lightening if the SMART Concentrate is not available.
Home care for pre-lightened hair: - Use the SMART Shampoo retail. Alternate SMART Conditioner and SMART Treatment once every week. Home care for coloured hair: - Use the SMART Shampoo retail and SMART Conditioner once a week. - Replace SMART Conditioner by SMART Treatment once every two weeks.
FunkHue
FunkHue contains direct dyes, and developers are not required. A developer will not create longer lasting results.
When required, we recommend utilizing our Blacklight Original Cream lightener with 3% / 10 volume for colour removal. If colour remains after the lightening service, we recommend neutralizing the tone with the appropriate Calura permanent shine colour shade series.
Acidic formulations, pH between 4 and 6.5
Each box of FunkHue is colored to showcase the results (as per lightening recommendations – please see our FunkHue reference guide)
We do not recommend intermixing with our Calura permanent shine hair colour.
Processing time is 20 minutes. For extra depth, process up to 30 minutes.
