Get SMART in your business

Smart High performance bond builder is made with over 90% naturally derived ingredients. In this day and age, clients are more conscious of what they put in their body. And even more so what they are using on their skin and hair. This new and innovative product is a great addition to the Blacklight family and can be a great addition to your salon.

There are 4 ways you can use SMART to help you grow your business.

  1. As a stand-alone treatment
  2. As an addition into your lightening service
  3. As an addition into your colour service
  4. At home care/retail

As a hairstylist you should always be thinking of these 4 things.

  1.  What can I do to continue to grow my business?
  2. How can I continue to elevate the salon experience?
  3. How can I provide an experience that is unmatched and unlike anyone else's?
  4. What products can I add to my salon toolbox that will continue to offer options to my clients and produce beautiful and consistent results?

So, let's talk about SMART and how it can become another service option for your clients and help you make more money in sales. Whether you use SMART as a stand-alone treatment or as an addition to your colour/lightening service. This is such a great opportunity to share with your clients all the amazing benefits of using SMART. Yes, an awesome product will sell itself, but you have to talk about it and share the WHY behind your new product. I suggest sharing this NEW product through an email campaign and on social media. Sharing one campaign and a few stories on IG isn't going to cut it. Be clear and consistent with your message and approach.

When introducing a new product you want to convey these 3 things.

  1. What makes it special
  2. How will it change their hair for the better? What will they gain by using it?
  3. What problem will it solve?

When pricing new services like SMART it is very important to ensure you are charging enough to cover your cost of the product and enough to make a profit. While my coaching is based on a price per minute and my data worksheet. I do want to give you a few tips to set you up to win when pricing SMART in your salon.

  1. Calculate your cost per service. You take the cost of the product and divide it by the ounces.  EX: If the product costs $150 to purchase and it’s 16.5 ounces. It costs YOU $9.09 PER OUNCE. **Keep in mind 1 pump of The SMART CONCENTRATE is = to 0.1 ounce. Each pump is costing you approximately 91 cents. Then you would do the same calculation with the Purifying Shampoo and the Bond Builder and Repair Treatment, and every other product used during any services.

  2. In order to reach your target profit you want to keep the cost of the product LESS than 15% of your service price. EX: If you charge $30 for a service the cost of the product should be $4.50 or less.  If it's not, your service price may be too low.

  3. If you are looking for a way to price services and don't have a resource like my price per minute/data worksheet. A rule of thumb is that you would calculate your cost of product and charge at least 10x-15x more to price the service. EX: If the product usage costs you $2.50. You would take $2.50 x 10 = a minimum price of $25. EX: $2.50 x 15= $37.50. There are many factors that go into pricing services and everyone's pricing will be different. But this will at least give you a good starting point.

Adding the SMART line to your salon and offering just 5 services a week at $40 will = an additional $200 per week and $10,400 per year in sales.

*The pricing listed above are simply numbers used as an example. You will have to calculate your own product cost based on what’s used. The guide above is an approximation of service prices. You will want to run your own calculations and decide what the best price point is for your salon.
